BIOGRAPHY

 

Born 18 March, 1965 in Kyiv region (Ukraine)

 

Bochkovska Valentyna - director of Museum of Book and Printing of Ukraine (since 2008). Historian, Researcher and Expert in the field of the Attribution of old books. Graduated the Kyiv State University named after Taras Shevchenko (1989), postgraduate course of the Ukrainian Center for Graduate School of Philosophy Department of the National Taras Shevchenko University. From 1986 till 2008 worked as a science worker (Junior, Senior, Leading scientist of the Department of Manuscripts & Rare Books), from 2008 – the Director of the Museum. As a scholar, I am engaged in serious research and study of domestic and foreign ancient books.

 

Took part like a participant in the Internship Museum Program in Poland (1999, The George Soros’ Foundation), International Seminars «Museum Exhibitions, Communications, and Public Outreach» in Ukraine (The Fund for Arts and Culture in Central and Eastern Europe, Embassy of the USA in Ukraine, Ukrainian Centre for traditional culture «Ivan Honchar Museum», Museum  Management Seminar “Museum Communication: Presentation and Interpretation” organized by Public Affairs Section and conducted by American experts, International Visitor Leadership Program «The Role of Museums in Defining National Identity» in USA (2009, USA Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs).

 

Author and curator of the projects of the first Museum workshop “Museum Paper Workshop”, which has been conducting every Saturday during the last two years, and also new master-classes of the family entertainment - Greeting Card”, “Scriptorium”, “Literary Saloon”. Initiator of the Museum literary all-Ukrainian competition in the fairy-tales writing. In 2010 the best fairy-tale, according to its results, has been published as a separate book.

 

Author and curator of the project of the “Alphabetic Kingdom of Wizards and Angels” All-Ukrainian Festival of Ukrainian books for children, which took place in our Museum in October 2010. This year 2014 we hold 5-th Festival.

 

Curator more than 40 Museum’s exhibitions. In 2013 there were 25 exhibitions in our museum, and in the same time we took part in the numerous joint projects with other museums such as “Sophia” National Preserve, Lviv Historical Museum, the Ivan Honchar Folk Culture Center, Kyiv Russian Art Museum, “Pidhoretsky Castle” Foundation, and “Art Arsenal” Complex. We’ve establishes strong ties with many funds and organizations (Leonid Kuchma’s “Ukraina” Charitable President’s Foundation, “Pidhoretsky Castle” Foundation, “Freedom House Ukraine”).

 

Author and curator of the Photo-exhibition «America with Love». This exhibition was presented in the Museum of Books and Printing of Ukraine, Sophia Kyivska National Preserve, and Lviv Historical Museum. Co-author of the photobook «Exchanges» published by PAS.

 

Author of the international project “Women’s Role in Ukrainian Society : Historical Retrospective” supported by the USA Embassy in Ukraine. As a part of this project we’ve conducted two-days scholarly conference in our museum and published a collection of articles. In April 2011 we showed the “Beauty and Eternity” exhibition of women’s portraits of 16-19 centuries from the collection of the Museum “Olesky Castle” and printed its catalog with the same title. This edition has been supported by the “Ukraina” Charitable Fund of Leonid Kuchma and the USA Embassy.

 

Author more than 30 publications in the scientific journals. Valentina Bochkovska is also a co-authors of the following books:«Cataloguef of Books of Pochaev and Univ printing-houses XVIII-XX centuries from the collection of the Museum of Book and Printing of Ukraine» (2008), “Collection of Ukrainian Old Books 16-18 centuries” (2012). These books were presented to the Library of Congress, Metropolitan Museum, Harvard University Library, Cambridge Library, etc. and were highly appreciated and evaluated by scholars.

Curator of the international exhibition project “Artist’s Book” (2011-2012) supported by the Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation “Ukraine’s Development”.

 

Curator of project - exhibition «Drawings of Italian painters 16-18 centuries from the funds of National Museum in Lviv» Lviv-Kiev (april-july 2014), were presented masterpices of the famous Italian artists Tizian, Tiepolo, Michelangelo, Gallina and etc.

 

Active member of the fundraiser’s association Institute of Professional Fundraising, member of the European Fundraising Association. In 2014 from September 22 to October 4, I was the participant of “The International TOT Summer School” (27 participants from 8 countries - Georgia, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine) in Vystice, Czech Republic. The goal of this school was to share experiences and learn more about effective training methods and skills. As a result, I’ve got a certificate as a fundraising coacher and trainer.

 

And I’m using my new skills in Museum, looking for funds for our cultural and scientific projects. At the same time, my work related so closely with all literary processes in Ukraine. Since 2012, I am a member of jury of the International “Lviv Publisher’s Forum”.

 

At the present time Valentyna Bochkovska is in Chicago on a Fulbright Scholarship like a Fulbright scholar with project “American Collections of Antique Ukrainian Books from the 16TH – 18TH Century». Organizer and Head of the inter-museum exhibition projects, international, regional, museum conferences, seminars.
