BIOGRAPHY
Peter Swift is an award-winning contemporary realist artist. His studio is in Olney, Maryland, USA.
Peter was born in San Francisco, California, USA in 1945. He grew up in New Jersey. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1970. Peter worked for 23 years as a corporate lawyer for the Marriott International hotel company.
Basically a self-taught artist, Peter learned drawing and painting by attending night and weekend classes in the Washington, DC area, as well as at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
Peter's artistic philosophy is simple: "I always paint common, everyday objects. Using symmetry and design, I try to turn them into something new, something that nobody has ever seen before."
Peter is trying to develop a new genre of still-life painting which he calls "Magic Symmetry". Magic Symmetry is a combination of: (a) photorealistic renderings of objects; and (b) arrangement of these objects in symmetrical designs, such as circles (as opposed to the "slice-of-life" or "snapshot" approach which is usually found in still-life paintings).
