BIOGRAPHY
Jim van Geet is a professional artist living in the beautiful mountain country at the foothills of Mt. Buffalo, Australia.
After completing a Diploma of Applied Science and working as a Technical Advisor to Patent Attorneys, he then undertook a Diploma of Fine Art, became a Furniture Designer and manufacturer and continued to paint.
In the pursuit of excellence he undertook further tuition from artists such as John Borrack, Sir William Dargie, Ron Crawford and The Melbourne Realist Art School.
Sought after for commissions, especially his portraits, his paintings grace the walls of residences in Australia, Britain, France, U.S.A. and Holland.
He was Principal of the Black Range Art School and inaugurated the King Valley Art Show and Festival in 1996 as well as convening the “Campfires against Cancer” major charity art show in Albury in 2003.
He was invited to Exhibit in the Florence Biennale in Italy in December 2007 and was one of 12 Australians amongst 840 International artists from 74 countries to participate. He convened the “Contemporanea “ Exhibition in Melbourne and Canberra to showcase the Australian artists represented there.
As a consequence of this exhibition he is now also represented by galleries in Los Angeles.
Although represented by other Australian galleries he is also the owner/director of Myrtleford Gallery where he showcases the work of 30+ artists from around Australia as well as some of his own paintings.
Jim is a multi-award winner and a regular entrant in the major portrait exhibitions such as the Archibald, Moran, Percival and Black Swan Portrait exhibitions.
