Debra is an accomplished Senior Management Executive with a 25 year record of success driving and supporting growth, expansion and sustainability of entrepreneurial businesses in changing, competitive economic environments. She is also an accomplished visual artist working in watercolours, acrylics and oils, and has a passion for architecture, landscaping and gardening. As Founder and Creative Editor-in-Chief, of Arabella Magazine, the Premier Canadian Consumer Art Magazine, www.arabelladesign.com , she combines her talents to set the overall business and artistic vision for the magazine. For Debra, Arabella is like a painting – it is a piece of art that every three months goes out to be seen by hundreds of thousands of people. For that very reason she wants people to have a wonderful time; to be transported, entertained and informed. Her background spans publishing, oil and gas, fine art jewellery, painting, fine art woodworking, foodservice, furniture design and manufacturing. She is originally from Calgary and has lived and worked in many interesting places, including Australia, Toronto and Los Angeles.
An Alberta native, now transplanted via Ontario to the Maritimes - Debra infuses her fine art painting and folk art with a unique Western perspective and sense of adventure and charm. Her Fine Art Jewelry lines offer the beauty and magic of semi-precious gemstones combined with a unique artistic eye for unique combinations of colour, texture and shape. Debra graduated from the University of Calgary and in between raising her son, many dogs, and developing several successful management consulting businesses, she pursued her passion for fine art with studies with Stephen Quiller in Creed, Colorado; Marion Thompson in Banff, Alberta; Zoltan Zabo in San Diego, California; and Michael Atkinson in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She has been prolific in exhibiting and selling works in oils, watercolours and acrylics to clients in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Alberta and Ontario, as well as internationally, including Japan. She has developed a number of corporate clients as part of an art consulting and leasing business with clients in Alberta and Washington State. Having never forgotten the cherished moments at her grandfather's woodworking shop in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Debra has also developed her woodworking skills and pursued applications of her painting talents to various mediums of wood, including furniture and garden accessories.

In recognition of her artistic talents and ability to inspire and motivate others to expand their vision, she was asked to teach Special Applied Watercolour Techniques at the Alberta Art College, as well as painting with Wood at SAIT. She has developed and taught several workshops on: Unusual Watercolour Techniques; Applying Acrylic to Wood; Furniture as Art; and Learning Fine Folk Art. The Bird House Art line of creations reflects an exquisite refinement of all of Debra's talents to this unique art form. At their heart, they are designed to inspire laughter and encourage a different perspective of our everyday world.
