After many years of living in the vibrancy of the inner city suburbs of Collingwood, Fitzroy and Williamstown, she moved back to rural Acheron, taking inspiration from the landscape of her childhood.
Marian’s work is multi layered and versatile. She has the ability to see the extraordinary in the ordinary things that most of us take for granted. She offers intimate glimpses of her subject matter giving each object a status worthy of our attention.
Marian is a powerhouse of creative endeavour, to her, there is nothing that cannot be drawn, painted, printed, decorated, cultivated, cooked or carved.
Marian's work is unique, strong, distinctive and decidedly Australian in flavour.
She has drawn and painted the countryside since childhood and continues today with a fluency developed through years of experimentation and inspiration.
My career as an artist has been a series of twists and turns and has spanned many facets of the artistic spectrum – from theatre, textiles, puppetry, sculpture, special effects and television to painting. I was about seven years old when I began my life-long exploration of painting and drawing and the associated worlds. Now, in my middle years, my love affair with the magic to be found within the brush has taken over.
The joy of completing the voyage from inanimate state of ‘empty canvas and an array of paint and brushes’ to a work that can breathe life never fails to satisfy an inexplicable need deep within my being.
I cannot resist the beauty of our world, be it our physical surrounds or the complexity and character of the human form and its emotional landscape. *What is more exciting than colour and its infinite interplay of hue and tone, or form with its innate strengths and frailties and the weaving of these into visual stories of our lives*?
With my many years of travelling throughout this vast country of ours I have grown to love the colours and terrain that are uniquely ‘Australian’, particularly the singularity and deep sensuality to be found in our more remote areas. This love has grown with time and I feel that it now forms the basis of my palette.
